Getting it there

How a WiSh gets from one person to the other

Once a giver and the person receiving agree, you decide together how the item gets there. Here are some options that work for most WiShes, from a small package to a kitchen stove.

1to1WiSh is the matchmaker only. We never hold, store, ship or insure anything, and we never handle money. Any shipping or moving cost is agreed privately between the two of you. The services below are suggestions only; 1to1WiSh is not affiliated with them, so please check their prices and terms yourself.

1. Pickup: the simplest way

For most local WiShes, the person receiving picks the item up. Agree on a day, a time and a safe place to meet.

2. Small items by mail

Clothing, shoes, books, phones and small household items can usually go by mail.

  • In the U.S.: Pirate Ship is free to use and sells discounted USPS and UPS labels. You can also ship at your local post office, UPS or FedEx store.
  • Outside the U.S.: your country's national post office is usually the most affordable choice.
  • Agree on who pays postage before anything is mailed. Ask for a tracking number.

3. Big items nearby: furniture, appliances, cabinets

If neither of you has a truck, an on-demand moving service can send a vehicle and helpers for one trip. Some options in many U.S. cities:

  • Dolly
  • Lugg
  • GoShare
  • A local moving company, or a rented pickup truck or van from a home-improvement store.

Measure doorways first, and agree on who is there to help load and unload.

4. Ask your community

Friends, family, a church, a school or a neighbor with a truck are often glad to help. A WiSh is a good reason to bring people together.

Staying safe

  • Meet in a public place when you can, such as a store parking lot or a police station's exchange zone.
  • Bring a friend, and tell someone where you are going.
  • Share your home address only when you are comfortable.
  • Check the item together before it is loaded.
  • Never send money for anything except postage you both agreed on. Never share bank, card or ID numbers.
  • If something feels wrong, stop. In an emergency, call 911 or your local police. You can also report the post to info@1to1wish.org so we can review or remove it.

Your responsibility

Every exchange, pickup, delivery and shipment is arranged directly between the giver and the person receiving, at their own risk. 1to1WiSh does not check, inspect or guarantee any person, item or service, and is not responsible for any loss, damage, injury, cost or dispute that comes from an exchange. Please use good judgment and stay safe. See our Terms & Conditions.
